Bisq Review (2026): The Best No-KYC Fiat Ramp, With Limits

Updated · SuperSwap team

Superswap.cx is a crypto swap service with no account and no KYC: there is no registration, and identity documents are not routinely requested. It swaps 17 assets: BTC, ETH, XMR, ZEC, LTC, SOL, BCH, DASH, XRP, DOGE and ADA, plus USDT and USDC on Ethereum (ERC-20), Tron (TRC-20) and Solana. Fees are built into the displayed rate, swaps are processed in 5–30 minutes after the deposit is confirmed, and the minimum swap is $50. The main difference: Bisq is a peer-to-peer desktop app where you trade with another person, with bitcoin locked in a multisig escrow, while Superswap.cx is an instant crypto-to-crypto swap service that does not handle fiat.

Bisq is a peer-to-peer exchange you run as a desktop app. There is no company holding your coins and no sign-up: you trade directly with another person, over Tor, with bitcoin locked in a multisig escrow until both sides are done. kycnot.me gives it a perfect 10 out of 10 and KYC level 0, and it is still the best-known way to buy bitcoin with a bank transfer without showing ID.

Full disclosure: we run Superswap.cx, an instant crypto-to-crypto swap service, so we are not a Bisq competitor for fiat. This review is based on the Bisq wiki, Bisq's own blog and release notes, and kycnot.me, all checked in October 2026.

The Short Version

Good for

  • Buying BTC with bank transfer, cash or 50+ other fiat payment methods, no ID
  • No central custodian: funds sit in a 2-of-2 multisig escrow
  • An active BTC/XMR market on Bisq 1
  • Open source, Tor built in, volunteer-run

Watch out for

  • Taker fee of 1.15%, plus a 15–50% security deposit you lock up
  • Maximum trade 0.25 BTC, and new fiat accounts start at 0.002 BTC
  • Fiat trades take hours to days (SEPA up to 6 days)
  • A May 2026 exploit hit altcoin trades (Bisq says victims were reimbursed)

Bisq 1 vs Bisq 2 (Bisq Easy)

There are two apps, and both are live in October 2026.

Bisq 1 (v1.10.9, released October 1, 2026) is the full exchange: BTC against fiat and altcoins including Monero, with security deposits from both sides and multisig escrow. It is the one to use for anything above pocket money.

Bisq 2 (v2.1.14, released October 15, 2026) currently runs one protocol, Bisq Easy, built for first-time buyers. It is BTC against fiat only, trades are $6 to $600, there is no trade fee, and the seller pays the mining fee. Instead of a buyer deposit, sellers need a reputation score, which is why Bisq Easy offers typically carry a 10–15% premium over market. The MuSig protocol meant to replace Bisq 1 is still in development, with no release date.

Fees, Deposits and Limits on Bisq 1

ItemBisq 1 (October 2026)
Maker fee0.15%
Taker fee1.15% (about 25% less if paid in BSQ)
Minimum fee0.000075 BTC
Security deposit15–50% of the trade, minimum 0.001 BTC, returned after the trade
Maximum trade0.25 BTC (SEPA and Zelle about 0.0625 BTC)
New fiat accountsBuy limit 0.002 BTC, 50% of the limit after 30 days, full limit after 60

The account-age limits exist because fiat payments can be charged back. They are Bisq's only gate: there is no ID check at any size.

How Long a Bisq Trade Takes

Every trade has a maximum window set by the payment method: SEPA 6 days, Zelle 4 days, SEPA Instant and Revolut 1 day, cash by mail 8 days, and altcoin trades 1 day. Most trades finish well inside those windows, but you also have to find an offer at an acceptable price and wait for the other side to be online.

The May 2026 Exploit

On May 1, 2026 an attacker exploited missing miner-fee validation in Bisq 1 and took 11.59 BTC from 10 users. Only altcoin trades were affected; fiat trades and Bisq 2 were not. Trading was halted, the fix shipped in v1.10.0, and Bisq's June 16 update says affected users were reimbursed by June 5, using funds advanced by community volunteers ("Refund Angels"). Several mandatory security updates have followed since, and kycnot.me still shows a small penalty for active incidents.

Fair summary: a serious bug, handled well. Keep the app updated, because Bisq enforces minimum versions after security fixes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Bisq safe?

Bisq has no central custodian. Trades are secured by multisig escrow and security deposits, and kycnot.me scores it 10 out of 10. A May 2026 exploit took 11.59 BTC from 10 altcoin traders; it was patched, and Bisq says affected users were reimbursed by June 5, 2026.

Does Bisq require KYC?

No. Bisq never asks for ID. New fiat payment accounts start with low buy limits (0.002 BTC) that rise after 30 and 60 days to limit chargeback fraud.

What are Bisq fees?

On Bisq 1 the maker fee is 0.15% and the taker fee is 1.15%, with about a 25% discount if you pay in BSQ, plus mining fees. You also lock a 15–50% security deposit that is returned after the trade. Bisq Easy has no trade fee, but offers usually carry a 10–15% premium.

What is the difference between Bisq 1 and Bisq Easy?

Bisq 1 is the full exchange with security deposits, fiat and altcoin markets including Monero, up to 0.25 BTC per trade. Bisq Easy (in Bisq 2) is a simpler BTC-for-fiat app for new buyers, limited to $6–$600 per trade.

Can you buy Monero on Bisq?

Yes. Bisq 1 has an active BTC/XMR market. If you already hold bitcoin, an instant swap such as Superswap.cx converts BTC to XMR in minutes without a deposit or order book.

How long does a Bisq trade take?

Altcoin trades must finish within 1 day. Fiat trades depend on the payment method: SEPA Instant and Revolut 1 day, Zelle 4 days, SEPA 6 days.
