Ethereum Wallet (2026): Best ETH Wallets, Gas and Setup

Swap to ETH →
No KYC · No account · Most swaps 5–30 min

An Ethereum wallet holds the keys to your ETH and to every token on the Ethereum network, including USDT and USDC. Each account in the wallet has one address that starts with 0x, and that single address receives ETH and ERC-20 tokens alike.

This guide compares the Ethereum wallets that are maintained today, explains gas in plain words, and walks through setup and receiving. We run Superswap.cx, a swap service that pays out ETH, USDT and USDC, so the last part covers our own swap. The wallet facts come from each wallet's own website, support pages, app store listing or GitHub page.

Checked 22 October 2026: platforms, supported networks and hardware wallet support for each wallet below.

One Address for ETH, USDT and USDC

An Ethereum address is 0x followed by 40 characters (the digits 0–9 and the letters a–f). USDT and USDC on Ethereum are ERC-20 tokens: they live on the same network as ETH, so the same address holds them next to your ETH. You don't need a separate "USDT wallet" for ERC-20 tokens.

  • ETH is the fuel. It is the network's own coin, and every transaction on Ethereum pays its fee in ETH, including token transfers.
  • Tokens show as separate balances. ERC-20 USDT and USDC arrive at your 0x address and appear as their own lines in the wallet. If a token doesn't show, add it from the wallet's built-in token list instead of pasting a contract address from a random website.
  • Other EVM networks reuse the 0x format. Arbitrum, Base, BNB Smart Chain and similar networks accept the same 0x address, but coins on them are separate from coins on Ethereum. Always check which network a sender is paying on.
  • USDT and USDC on Tron or Solana are different. Tron addresses start with T; Solana addresses are a longer string of letters and numbers with no 0x. A wallet that supports those networks shows a separate address for each.

Our guide to USDC on ERC-20, TRC-20 and Solana explains how the stablecoin networks differ, and USDC vs USDT compares the two coins.

Ethereum Wallets Compared

All the wallets below are self-custody: you hold the recovery phrase, and no company can freeze or move your ETH. They are listed by type, not ranked.

  • Choose MetaMask if you want the wallet that most Ethereum apps and websites expect. It now also holds Solana, Bitcoin and Tron accounts, so it can receive USDT on Tron as well as on Ethereum.
  • Choose Rabby if you use DeFi apps a lot. It is built by the team behind DeBank, its extension code is public on GitHub under the MIT license, and it shows the expected balance change before you sign a transaction.
  • Choose Trust Wallet if you mainly use a phone and want one app for Ethereum plus many other chains.
  • Choose a hardware wallet for savings or larger amounts. The keys stay on the device, and you approve every transaction on its screen. You can keep using MetaMask or Rabby as the interface.

How to Set Up an Ethereum Wallet

  1. Install from the official source. Type the wallet's address yourself (metamask.io, rabby.io, trustwallet.com) and follow its link to the browser store or app store. Search ads and look-alike pages that copy wallet download pages are common.
  2. Create a new wallet. The app shows a recovery phrase, usually 12 words. This phrase is the wallet: anyone who has it can take your funds.
  3. Write the phrase on paper, in order. Don't keep it in a screenshot, email, cloud note or password field on a website. No wallet team will ever ask for it.
  4. Confirm the backup and set a password or PIN. The password only unlocks the app on this device; the phrase is what restores the wallet anywhere else.
  5. Copy your address. Open Receive (or click the account name) to copy the 0x address or show it as a QR code.

Moving a large amount for the first time? Send a small test payment first and check that it arrives.

Gas Basics: Why You Need a Little ETH

Every Ethereum transaction uses gas, a measure of the work the network does. You pay for it in ETH. The fee is the gas used multiplied by the price per unit, which has two parts:

  • Base fee: set by the network from recent demand. It rises when the network is busy and is burned, not paid to anyone.
  • Priority fee: a tip to the validator who includes your transaction. Wallets suggest one; a higher tip can confirm faster when the network is busy.

A plain ETH transfer uses 21,000 gas units. A token transfer uses more, around 65,000 units for an ERC-20 send according to ethereum.org, so moving USDT or USDC costs more than moving ETH. Your wallet estimates the fee before you confirm.

  • Receiving is free for you. The sender pays the gas.
  • Keep some ETH next to your tokens. If you hold only USDC, you can't send it until you add a little ETH for gas.
  • Layer-2 networks are cheaper but separate. Coins on Arbitrum or Base need ETH on that same network for their fees.

How to Receive ETH or USDC From a SuperSwap Swap

  1. Pick the coins. Choose what you send (for example BTC, LTC or XMR) and what you receive: ETH, or USDC or USDT on Ethereum for an ERC-20 payout.
  2. Paste your 0x address from the wallet's Receive screen into the payout field. Check the first and last few characters after pasting; clipboard malware can swap a copied address.
  3. Check the quote. The network fee is already included in the amount you see, and swaps start at $50.
  4. Send your deposit to the address the swap shows. Most swaps complete in 5–30 minutes, and you can follow yours on the order tracking page.
  5. Done. The ETH or tokens go straight to your wallet. SuperSwap is non-custodial: there is no account balance to withdraw from.

Planning to move the USDC on later? Keep a little ETH in the same wallet for gas. If you want stablecoins on a cheaper network, choose USDT on Tron or USDC on Solana instead and paste the matching Tron or Solana address. Live rates for common routes: BTC → ETH, BTC → USDT (ERC-20), USDT → ETH and XMR → ETH.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Wrong network. A 0x address looks the same on Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain and layer-2s. If a sender pays on another network, the coins arrive there, not on Ethereum. Your wallet can usually still reach them by switching networks.
  • Sending to a token contract. Never paste a token's contract address as a recipient. Use the recipient's own wallet address.
  • Signing what you don't understand. A website can ask you to approve a contract to move your tokens. Read the request in the wallet before you sign, and reject anything you didn't start.
  • "Support" messages. Anyone who asks for your recovery phrase, or asks you to "validate" your wallet on a website, is trying to take your funds.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best Ethereum wallet?

It depends on how you use it. MetaMask works with the most Ethereum apps and now also holds Solana, Bitcoin and Tron accounts. Rabby suits frequent DeFi users and shows the expected balance change before you sign. Trust Wallet is a phone-first wallet for many chains. For savings, use a hardware wallet such as Ledger or Trezor.

Can I receive USDT and USDC to my ETH address?

Yes, if they are sent as ERC-20 tokens on the Ethereum network. They arrive at the same 0x address as your ETH. USDT or USDC on Tron or Solana needs a Tron or Solana address instead.

Do I need ETH to send USDT or USDC?

Yes. Every transaction on Ethereum pays its gas fee in ETH, including token transfers. Keep a small amount of ETH in the same wallet if you hold ERC-20 tokens. Receiving tokens costs you nothing, because the sender pays the gas.

Is my Ethereum address the same on other networks?

Your 0x address is the same on Ethereum and other EVM networks such as Arbitrum, Base and BNB Smart Chain, but the balances on each network are separate. Solana, Bitcoin and Tron accounts in the same wallet have their own, different addresses.

How long does a swap to ETH take on SuperSwap?

Most swaps complete in 5 to 30 minutes, depending on how fast the coin you send confirms. Swaps start at $50, the network fee is included in the quote, and you need no account or ID. The ETH goes straight to the address you paste.
