Litecoin Wallet (2026): Best LTC Wallets, Address Types and Setup

Swap to LTC →
No KYC · No account · Most swaps 5–30 min

A Litecoin wallet holds the keys that let you receive and spend LTC. Litecoin works much like Bitcoin, so its wallets look familiar, but it has its own address formats and an optional privacy layer called MWEB that only some wallets support.

This guide lists the Litecoin wallets that are maintained today, explains the address types you will see, and walks through setup and receiving. We run Superswap.cx, a swap service that pays out LTC, so the last part covers our own swap. The wallet facts come from each project's own site, release page or documentation.

Checked 22 October 2026: wallet versions, platforms and MWEB support.

Litecoin Address Types

A Litecoin wallet can show more than one kind of address. All of the regular types below hold the same LTC and can pay each other:

  • ltc1… (native SegWit): the modern default, written in lowercase. It usually has the lowest fees and is the one to use when you have a choice.
  • M… (SegWit wrapped in P2SH): an older SegWit format. Some older wallets show the same address type starting with 3, because Litecoin first shared that prefix with Bitcoin and later switched to M.
  • L… (legacy): the original format. It still works, but transactions from it are larger and cost a little more.
  • ltcmweb1… (MWEB): a private address on Litecoin's MimbleWimble Extension Block, an optional layer activated in May 2022. Amounts and addresses sent inside MWEB are hidden from outside observers.

Watch the 3 prefix. Bitcoin addresses can also start with 3, so an address starting with 3 doesn't tell you which coin it belongs to. Copy addresses straight from the wallet's LTC account to avoid mixing them up.

Litecoin Wallets Compared

All the wallets below are self-custody: you hold the recovery phrase or wallet file, and nobody else can move your LTC. They are listed by type, not ranked.

WalletType and platformsMWEBNotes
Litecoin CoreFull-node wallet for Windows, macOS and LinuxYes, since version 0.21.2The reference software. Latest release 0.21.5.8 (September 2026). Downloads the whole blockchain, so it needs disk space and time to sync
Nexus WalletPhone wallet for iPhone and AndroidYes ("Private Litecoin" switch)Built by the Litecoin Foundation as the successor to Litewallet. Coin selection and Tor support
Cake WalletPhone wallet for iPhone and Android (multi-coin)Yes, since version 4.20.0Also holds Monero, Bitcoin and other coins. MWEB addresses start with ltcmweb1
ExodusDesktop (Windows, macOS, Linux) and phone (iPhone, Android), multi-coinNot listedDesktop and phone wallets can sync. Works with Trezor hardware wallets
Ledger or Trezor (hardware)A separate device, managed in the Ledger Wallet app or Trezor Suite (Trezor Safe 3, Safe 5 and Safe 7)Not listedFor larger amounts: the keys never leave the device. See our cold wallet guide
  • Choose Nexus Wallet if you want the Litecoin Foundation's own phone app with one-switch MWEB.
  • Choose Cake Wallet if you also hold Monero or other coins and want MWEB in the same app.
  • Choose Litecoin Core if you want to run your own node on a computer and verify everything yourself.
  • Choose Exodus if you want the same wallet on desktop and phone, with optional Trezor support.
  • Choose a hardware wallet for savings you rarely move.

Wallets we left out. Litewallet, the Litecoin Foundation's earlier phone wallet, reached its announced end of support on December 31, 2025, and the Foundation points users to Nexus Wallet. Electrum-LTC's latest release is 4.2.2.1 from June 2022; it has no Android build and no MWEB support.

How to Set Up a Litecoin Wallet

  1. Install from the official source. Use the app store link on the wallet's own website, or for Litecoin Core the official release page. Type the site address yourself rather than clicking a search ad.
  2. Create a new wallet and pick Litecoin (in multi-coin apps, add an LTC account).
  3. Write down the recovery phrase on paper, in order. Anyone who has it can spend your LTC. Litecoin Core works with a wallet file instead: back up that file and protect it with a strong passphrase.
  4. Confirm the backup and set a PIN, password or the phone's lock.
  5. Open Receive to see your ltc1 address. Leave the address type on the default unless a sender can't pay to it.

MWEB: Private Litecoin, Briefly

MWEB lets you keep part of your balance private. In Cake Wallet you turn it on under Litecoin settings; the first sync downloads several hundred megabytes, so use Wi-Fi. Nexus Wallet calls it "Private Litecoin" and turns it on with one switch.

  • Into MWEB: send from your regular balance to your own ltcmweb1 address.
  • Out of MWEB: send from the MWEB balance to a regular ltc1 address. Cake Wallet notes this needs six confirmations before the coins show on the regular chain.
  • Before a swap: move LTC out of MWEB to a regular address first. Funds held in MWEB generally can't be sent straight to a swap deposit address.

How to Receive LTC From a SuperSwap Swap

  1. Pick the coins. Choose what you send (BTC, ETH, USDT, XMR or another of our 13 coins) and LTC as the coin you receive.
  2. Paste a regular Litecoin address as the payout address: ltc1, M or L. Use your wallet's standard address, not an ltcmweb1 one. Check the first and last few characters after pasting.
  3. Check the quote. The network fee is already included, and swaps start at $50.
  4. Send your deposit to the address the swap shows. Most swaps complete in 5–30 minutes; follow yours on the order tracking page.
  5. Done. LTC goes straight to your wallet. SuperSwap is non-custodial, so there is no account to withdraw from. Once it arrives you can move it into MWEB if you want it private.

Live rates for common routes: BTC → LTC, ETH → LTC and XMR → LTC. Going the other way: LTC → BTC, LTC → USDT (TRC-20), or read how to exchange Litecoin to Bitcoin. Pairs, guides and network notes are collected in the Litecoin hub.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Mixing up coins. Litecoin, Bitcoin and Dogecoin wallets look alike. Make sure the address comes from the LTC account; Bitcoin native SegWit starts with bc1 and Dogecoin addresses usually start with D.
  • Sending from MWEB to a service. Move the coins to a regular address first.
  • Unchecked pastes. Clipboard malware can replace a copied address. Compare the start and end every time.
  • Fake "support". No wallet team or swap service needs your recovery phrase. Anyone asking for it is trying to take your coins.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best Litecoin wallet?

For a phone, Nexus Wallet from the Litecoin Foundation and Cake Wallet both support MWEB privacy. Litecoin Core is the full-node wallet for computers. Exodus runs on desktop and phone. For savings, a Ledger or Trezor hardware wallet keeps the keys off your computer.

Which Litecoin address should I use?

Use the ltc1 address your wallet shows by default. It is the modern native SegWit format with the lowest fees. M and L addresses still work, and every regular address type can pay the others.

What is a Litecoin MWEB address?

An MWEB address starts with ltcmweb1 and belongs to Litecoin’s optional privacy layer, activated in May 2022. Amounts and addresses inside MWEB are hidden. Wallets such as Cake Wallet, Nexus Wallet and Litecoin Core support it.

Can I send LTC from MWEB to an exchange or swap?

Generally not directly. Send it from your MWEB balance to a regular ltc1 address in your own wallet first, wait for the confirmations, then send it on to the deposit address.

How do I get LTC into a new wallet without an account?

Copy your regular ltc1 address and paste it as the payout address on a swap service such as Superswap.cx, then send BTC, ETH, USDT or XMR. Swaps start at $50, most finish in 5 to 30 minutes, and no account or ID is needed.
