USDT (Tether) is a stablecoin that tracks the US dollar. It is not a blockchain of its own: Tether issues it as a token on several networks, and Tron, Ethereum and Solana are among the ones it currently supports. So a "USDT wallet" is really a wallet for the network your USDT is on, which shows the USDT token at that network's address.
That has two practical effects. First, the address you use depends on the network: a Tron address for TRC-20 USDT, an Ethereum address for ERC-20 USDT, a Solana address for Solana USDT. Second, you pay fees in that network's own coin, so the wallet needs a little TRX, ETH or SOL next to your USDT.
All the wallets in this guide are self-custody: you hold the recovery phrase, and nobody can freeze the wallet. For a wider overview of wallet types, see our crypto wallet guide.
| Network | Address looks like | Fee paid in | On Superswap.cx |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tron (TRC-20) | T…, 34 characters | TRX, or energy and bandwidth from staked TRX | USDT-TRX, USDC-TRX |
| Ethereum (ERC-20) | 0x… plus 40 hex characters | ETH (gas) | USDT-ETH, USDC-ETH |
| Solana (SPL) | Base58, 32 to 44 characters, no fixed prefix | SOL | USDT-SOL, USDC-SOL |
Tron is a popular choice for sending USDT because transfers are cheap and fast. Ethereum is the original home of USDT and the network most apps support, but gas can cost more. Solana sits in between, with very low fees. Our stablecoin hub and network comparison go deeper.

| Wallet | Platforms | USDT networks we checked | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| TronLink | iPhone, Android, Chrome extension | Tron (TRC-20); the extension also handles Ethereum and BSC | The original Tron wallet. Stake TRX for energy inside the app; imports a Ledger over Bluetooth |
| Trust Wallet | iPhone, Android, browser extension | Tron, Ethereum, Solana and 100+ networks | One app for USDT on all three networks |
| Exodus | Desktop and mobile | Tron, Ethereum, Solana, plus Arbitrum, Avalanche, Base, BNB Chain, Optimism | Clean interface; Tron with a Ledger works in Exodus Mobile |
| MetaMask | Browser extension, iPhone, Android | Ethereum and EVM networks; Tron since January 2026; also Solana | TRX staking for energy is on mobile only; the extension can use the resources |
| Ledger (hardware) | Ledger device with the Ledger Wallet app (formerly Ledger Live) | Ethereum, Tron, Polygon and others | Signs on the device. Send at least 0.1 TRX to a new Tron account before its USDT shows |
Tron does not charge gas the way Ethereum does. Instead every transaction uses two resources:
What this means for you: a Tron wallet that holds USDT but no TRX cannot send the USDT. Keep some TRX in the same address. If you move USDT often, staking TRX for energy can make transfers much cheaper; TronLink and MetaMask mobile both offer it.
New Tron addresses. A freshly created Tron address is not yet active on the chain. You can still receive TRC-20 USDT to it, but some wallets want TRX first: Ledger asks you to send at least 0.1 TRX to a new Tron account before USDT shows in Ledger Wallet. Sending TRX to a brand-new address costs the sender a one-time 1 TRX account creation fee.
On Ethereum, every USDT transfer pays a gas fee in ETH. A wallet with USDT and no ETH cannot send. The fee depends on how busy the network is, not on how much USDT you send, so small ERC-20 transfers can cost a large share of their value when gas is high.
Your ERC-20 USDT lives at the same 0x address as your ETH. Other EVM networks such as BNB Chain, Arbitrum or Base use the same 0x format and often the same address in your wallet, so it is easy to send on the wrong one. If a sender offers several networks, pick Ethereum (ERC-20) only if that is what your receiving side expects. Our Ethereum wallet guide covers gas in more detail.
USDT on Tron, Ethereum and Solana is the same dollar value, but the tokens are separate. A wallet only sees USDT on the network it is watching, and services only credit deposits on the network they expect.

Swap BTC to USDT →Popular routes: BTC to USDT (TRC-20), BTC to USDT (ERC-20), XMR to USDT, LTC to USDT and SOL to USDT. Going the other way: USDT to BTC and USDT to XMR.
For TRC-20 USDT, TronLink is the native Tron wallet, and Trust Wallet and Exodus hold USDT on Tron, Ethereum and Solana in one app. MetaMask now covers Ethereum, Tron and Solana too. For larger balances, use a Ledger. All of these are self-custody.
It is any wallet that supports the Tron network and its TRC-20 tokens, such as USDT. Your TRC-20 address is your Tron address, which starts with T and is 34 characters long.
A TRC-20 transfer needs energy, and if you have none the network burns TRX to pay for it. If your wallet holds USDT but no TRX, the transfer fails. Add some TRX to the same address, or stake TRX to get energy.
No. Tron and Ethereum are separate networks with different address formats, and a wallet or service will not credit USDT sent on the wrong one. To move USDT between networks, swap it, for example USDT-TRX to USDT-ETH.
Paste your Tron, Ethereum or Solana address as the payout address on Superswap.cx, pick the matching USDT network, and send BTC, ETH, XMR or another supported coin. There is no account or ID check, swaps start at $50, and most finish in 5 to 30 minutes.
